Nonprofit Sector Report
Memphis nonprofits are the lifeblood of our community, contributing every day to the economic, social and cultural vibrancy of our great city. They touch every corner of Memphis and beyond. They deliver essential services that save government and taxpayers millions of dollars and have a profound impact on our local, state and national economy.
While nonprofits are instrumental to our community’s well-being, the sector recognizes that it takes all three sectors – nonprofits, government and business – to address our community’s challenges. The Mid-South Nonprofit Council was created in 2016 to educate public officials about the impact of nonprofits and discuss ways for the three sectors to partner and leverage each other’s resources. The primary goal of the Council over the past year has been to engage the nonprofit sector in creating this Memphis/Shelby County Nonprofit State of the Sector report as the nonprofit voice for the City of Memphis’ 3.0 comprehensive plan.
The Council plans to continue developing and strengthening the collective voice for the nonprofit sector. Its eight field of service committees will serve as action and advisory networks to influence public policy that impacts the sector at the federal, state and local levels.
