
WHAT IS TRANSIT ORIENTED DEVELOPMENT?
Transit Oriented Development (TOD) is a type of development with a mix of uses such as housing, jobs, restaurants, shops, services, public spaces, and entertainment within easy walking distance to transit shops. The overall goals are: increase population and building density, decrease the dependency on cars, and encourage other types of transportation such as walking, biking, and transit.
WHAT IS THE MEMPHIS INNOVATION CORRIDOR TOD PLAN?

A land use plan to increase density within easy walking distance to transit stops with a mix of uses.

The Innovation Corridor connects Downtown Memphis, Memphis Medical District, and The University of Memphis along Second Street and BB King Boulevard, Union Avenue, and Poplar Avenue.

Includes mConnect, the city’s first bus rapid transit (BRT) system – part of ongoing implementation of the Memphis Transit Vision included in the Memphis 3.0 Comprehensive Plan.
