WHAT IS TRANSIT ORIENTED DEVELOPMENT?

Transit Oriented Development (TOD) is a type of development with a mix of uses such as housing, jobs, restaurants, shops, services, public spaces, and entertainment within easy walking distance to transit shops.  The overall goals are: increase population and building density, decrease the dependency on cars, and encourage other types of transportation such as walking, biking, and transit.

WHAT IS THE MEMPHIS INNOVATION CORRIDOR TOD PLAN?

  •  A land use plan to increase density within easy walking distance to transit stops with a mix of uses.

  • The Innovation Corridor connects Downtown Memphis, Memphis Medical District, and The University of Memphis along Second Street and BB King Boulevard, Union Avenue, and Poplar Avenue.

  • Includes mConnect, the city’s first bus rapid transit (BRT) system – part of ongoing implementation of the Memphis Transit Vision included in the Memphis 3.0 Comprehensive Plan.
